ACT Rock n Roll Club
ACT Rock 'n' Roll Club

The Committee

Evelin Muller - President

I am married to Gary Muller. I have 2 beautiful girls and 6 beautiful grandchildren. I enjoy rock 'n' roll music, spending time with my husband down the coast, sewing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. I have been coming along to rock 'n' roll for 20 years.

Tony Gray - Events Officer

Dear members,
As you are aware, a new committee has now taken over the helm of the ACT Rock 'n' Roll Club and over the next 12 months will endeavour to provide the same commitment to the Club as the previous committee. I do not play obscure 50s songs at the R'n'R club functions that most people do not know. This I can do at home in my own personal time. What I try to do is play a few different songs at every function. Apart from playing the evergreens that everybody likes I will also introduce a few new songs that I think may appeal to the members who enjoy their dancing. When selecting new songs, the first thing to consider is whether you can dance to the music. If any songs do not fit into this category then they are not played. Obviously requests are always welcome. To move on, as the Events Officer it is my job as part of the new Committee team to organise and book the entertainment over the next 12 months. It is the intention of this Committee to try and book at least 5 interstate bands within the next 12 months with the possibility of local bands being booked in between some of the interstate bands. Our first band from Melbourne is "Billy O'Neill And The Headliners" who will be appearing on September 11 at the Harmonie German Club to celebrate the ACT Rock 'n' Roll Club's 25th Anniversary. Billy has been around for a long time and has played at several of our dances over the last 12 years. About 3 weeks ago South Side Rock 'n' Roll Club had a Melbourne band at the Burns club called "The Straight Eights". The lead singer of this band is Billy's brother Victor O'Neill. The third member of the O'Neill family is Dave O'Neill and he also has a band of his own. All 3 brothers have been singing for a long time and are extremely experienced when it comes to performing on stage. Their musical tastes vary but with respect to "The Headliners", they will be playing medium tempo Rock 'n' Roll songs that most of you will be familiar with. Again, it is this Committee's intention to ensure that the bands that we bring into the ACT play danceable music that should appeal to most if not all of our members. Looking forward to seeing you all at our future Club functions.

Michael Blacksell - Secretary

I have only been on the Rock 'n' Roll scene for just over two years now, before that I have had eight years of experience dancing in Ballroom Dancing formats. I came to ACT Rock 'n' Roll looking for some down time from the fast bustle of the life and found a fun and enjoyable environment to learn Four Step and then Rock-a-billy. The club has gone through many changes in the short time I have been here and this year I have decided to give some energy back to the club, the club has certainly given me energy over the last few years. I will endeavor, where I can, to make this year as enjoyable and fun for all club members. See you on the dance floor.

Gary Muller - Treasurer

Gooday everyone. Most of you would know me as I have been involved in the Club for as long as the President - and for those of you that I don't know yes we are married. No we didn't meet at rock 'n' roll! Though we both enjoy the music, the company and enjoy having a good time. I am very passionate about the music of the '50's. I play it while I am at work, driving the car, at home and whenever I can. I must be honest and say that I would prefer to listen to a good '50's song rather than have a dance. Though they do go hand in hand and I have to sometimes please the President by having a dance with her. Hopefully we can encourage people to come out to the new venue.

Jenny Elliott - Membership Secretary

I first discovered Rock 'n' Roll dancing in 2003 when I tagged along with my neighbour to Swing classes (because I was too much of a chicken to go my own!). Swing was OK but then we met someone who did 4-step Rock 'n' Roll, which looked like much more fun, so we switched 'codes' and enrolled in Rock 'n' Roll lessons. After a few months, we plucked up the courage to go to a 'Rock n Roll' Dance and try out our new found dancing prowess...but when we walked in the door they were dancing a completely different style of 'Rock n Roll' to what we were learning!! It was a lot faster, with more twirling and spinning, and it looked fantastic! Needless to say, that's when I discovered Rock-a-Billy, and from the very first lesson, I ABSOLUTELY loved it! I practiced every week and couldn't wait for the next Dance! That was 8 years ago and although I have a few other dance styles under my belt now, Rock-a-Billy is still, without doubt, my ABSOLUTE favourite...and I still can't wait for the next dance!! I joined the committee because I love Rock n Roll dancing and I wanted to help. I am proud to be a member of both RnR clubs and the way I see it, two successful Rock n Roll clubs in Canberra = TWICE as many DANCES, and TWICE as much FUN.
